The most cost effective way of improving a home’s energy efficiency is to install insulation. Insulating the loft alone could save the typical home up to £175 and cavity insulation saving a further £135 per year (source EST October 2011) per year on energy bills. Installing insulation will pay for itself in 1 to 2 years (depending on the installed materials).

Home Survey Reports are working with utility companies and the Government’s Warm Front initiative to provide you with free or subsidised home insulation and heating, depending on your personal circumstances. The initiative is specifically designed to reduce your fuel bills, protect the environment and make your home healthier and more comfortable to live in.

Domestic fuel bills are rising rapidly - on average our fuel bills go up by 30% a year. The savings from insulating your home are greater than ever.

The table below shows you what it will cost to insulate your home after a grant has been awarded.

Heat rises, and in an uninsulated home a quarter of your heat is lost through the roof. Insulating your loft, attic or flat roof is a simple and effective way to save that waste and reduce your heating bills - you can even do it yourself. Loft insulation is effective for at least 40 years, and it will pay for itself over and over again in that time.

If your home was built after 1920, the chances are that its external walls are made of two layers with a gap or cavity between them. Cavity wall insulation fills that gap, keeping the warmth in to save energy. It can also help reduce condensation inside the house if this is a problem on your external walls.
